What to Expect

Your tour starts near Chrysotile with a short safety talk before you board our 6‑seat off‑road vehicles. You’ll ride as a passenger along dirt and rock roads through Ash Creek Canyon, taking in cliffs, desert scenery, and creek side views. After about 30 minutes of off‑roading, you’ll reach a private meadow along Ash Creek, where the hiking portion begins.
From there, you’ll hike roughly three‑quarters of a mile following the creek, navigating obstacles like boulders, a small dam, logs, and shallow water crossings. As you continue, the canyon narrows and the creek bed transforms into Moon Canyon—a hardened mix of smooth river rocks and sediment that creates the “moon‑like” surface this tour is named for. You’ll have time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the cool creek and canyon walls before hiking back the same way to the vehicles and returning to the starting point.

Who This Tour Is For

This tour is best for guests who enjoy both off‑roading and more active hiking. You should be comfortable walking on uneven, rocky ground; stepping over boulders, logs, and a small dam; and crossing shallow sections of creek. Expect to use your hands for balance in a few spots and to get your shoes mildly wet or dusty.
If you prefer mostly riding with short, easy walks and overlooks, one of our other off‑road tours such as the Chrysotile Lost Mining City or Regal Canyon adventures may be a better fit. If you like scrambling a bit, exploring unique geology, and mixing riding with hiking, Moon Canyon is an excellent choice.

Not recommended for guests with recent surgeries or mobility impairments; children must be able to hike the route with assistance.
